Types of Fences
Continuous Planks
Whether vertical or horizontal, planks are set tightly together with no gaps giving you the ultimate amount of privacy. Continuous plank fences also prevent climbing to keep your pets or young children safe on the ground. Combine fence panels (sections) that alternate vertical, horizontal, or even angled for a unique look. Both metal and wood posts can be used for a solidly anchored base.
Shadow Box
Shadow box fences are constructed with planks alternating on either side of the fence. Also known as a Good Neighbor Fence, this type of fence is slatted to the width of the planks allowing better air flow while still providing you with lots of privacy. These types of fences are often a collaboration between neighbors to share costs and give each an attractive, new, durable fence.
Slatted (Gapped) Fence
Also referred to as a Venetian fence. Planks are fixed to the fence rails with gaps between the planks. Depending on the amount of privacy you desire, gaps can be very small or wider to allow some visibility through the fence. Due to the gaps between planks, this type of fence is considered climbable and therefore may not be the best choice for every yard.
Rail Top Fence
The fence is constructed with a rail that runs horizontally along the top between fence posts. This style of construction creates a stronger, more supportive structure.
Picket Fence
A picket fence isn’t just a name for a decorative fence with pointy tips. A picket fence is any fence that doesn’t have a top rail. Planks are supported by cross rails only. The uppermost crossrail is a few inches below the top of the planks. Tips can be cut scalloped, with corner angles, full points, or left squared off.
Board on Board
This is a gapped fence, where the gaps are covered by another plank. These could also be called overlapping plank fences. This creates a ribbed looked but still gives you complete privacy.
Infinite Choices
Make sure you take time to decide just what type of fence is right for you. If you have small children, pets, a swimming pool, or a vegetable garden, the type of fence you choose can be very important. You may want to keep children and pets safe and on the inside, and keep wild critters or nosy neighbors on the outside. Do you want your fence to give you privacy? Security? Or do you want something more decorative than functional? Will you need a gate? Do you need airflow? Do you want to be able to see what’s going on outside your fence? These are all important questions that we will help you decide.

Remember, a fence that is built for privacy and security doesn’t have to be boring. Attractive details such as lattice tops, horizontal planks, and decorative accents such as fence inserts can make your secure privacy fence attractive and blend naturally with the design of your yard.
